Recently, I had the pleasure of coaching a dynamic and already successful female entrepreneur who was preparing to expand her business portfolio with a new venture. As we explored her vision, we discussed how a business name is more than just a label—it’s a powerful reflection of one’s values and the connection they wish to build with their ideal clients.
Reflecting on my own experience of naming my company, Belvedere Career Coaching, I remember the brainstorming, research, and valuable feedback I received. Yet, in the end, I chose a name that held deep personal significance to me—rather than one directly tied to my past, present, or future clients. Perhaps I was breaking all branding best practices—but I wanted to invite people into the story behind the name, hoping it might resonate with others who have benefited from coaching.
“Belvedere” is the name of the restaurant where my husband and I held our wedding celebration, right in the middle of Holland Park, London. If you have been there, you may have seen that it's where peacocks roam freely. The connection to my coaching business runs deeper than just a fond memory. Only two years before that day, I had my first experience working with a coach. My career was going well, I was happy, and I loved my life in London, but I felt the need to pause and reflect on what I truly wanted.
Through just a few coaching sessions, I gained the space, perspective, and clarity to see my path more clearly. When I first met my husband only a few weeks later, everything felt so easy and just fell into place.
We can call these moments luck, coincidence, or serendipity, but for me, coaching helped me recognize and embrace them. I have also benefitted massively from working with some brilliant coaches at different points in my career, particularly at times of transition. Years later, as I trained and practiced as a career coach, I wanted my business to embody that same sense of clarity and alignment.
Today, I’m deeply passionate about helping individuals and organizations discover their purpose, direction, and success. Always happy to chat! mj@belvederecoaching.com
